Foundation grounding

Pursuant to the Government Gazette Issue 1222/05-09-2006 issue Β΄ F. No. Α΄ 50/12081/642 article 2, grounding is now obligatory for all newly constructed buildings. The foundation grounding is applied as the basic grounding for protection and operation.

Grounding protects people from electrocution. It is achieved through a 30x3,5 mm steel, zinc-coated, hot-dip galvanized tape (St/tZn) the coating of which is 500gr/m2 inside the building’s foundation (foundation grounding) to achieve:

• Low grounding resistance.
• Corrosion resistant grounding rod.
• Easy to create main and complementary equipotential bondings.
• Low cost in comparison to other conventional ground rods.
• Future use of the grounding rod as a lightning protection grounding.

The resistance of the foundation grounding must be less than 1,0 ΟΗΜ.

In foundation grounding we have an equipotential connection of:

• DEH (Greek Public Power Corporation)
• OTE (Hellenic Telecommunications Organization)
• Computers
• EYDAP (Water Supply and Sewerage Company)
• NATURAL GAS
• Fuel pipeline with cathodic protection
• Lightning protection

Measurements must be made using an instrument that has been calibrated by an official calibration agency and the relevant certification must be issued by the competent Engineer or Electrician, in order to be used with the competent Public Services (DEH, etc.).
